Oct 16, 2024Oct 16, 2024

InfraBuild has unveiled a cutting-edge two-storey container-based office complex at its Mayfield facility in Newcastle.

The 225-square-metre multipurpose development, custom-built by Modulate Group, showcases the potential of steel as a sustainable building material.

The innovative structure incorporates 10 shipping containers, including eight 20-foot and two 40-foot units, customised to create a functional and aesthetically pleasing workspace.

Key features include:

David Bowden, National Project Operations Manager at InfraBuild Recycling, emphasised the building’s sustainability and practicality.

With a design life of up to 25 years under heavy use, the structure demonstrates the potential of well-designed container-based steel buildings.

The office complex incorporates efficient water management systems and can be easily disassembled and relocated as needs change.

This aligns with InfraBuild’s commitment to material circularity and sustainable practices in the steel industry.

Modulate Group, the Australian manufacturer behind the project, specialises in portable and modular buildings.

Their patented widened shipping container designs, which can extend up to 4.5 metres wide, offer increased space and design flexibility while maintaining the portability of standard containers.

Jack Adams, General Manager of Modulate Group, highlighted the company’s focus on quality control and customisation.

Their 20,000-square-metre production facility in Newcastle allows for efficient in-house manufacturing and customisation to meet diverse client needs.

This project demonstrates the evolving possibilities in modular construction, offering durable, sustainable, and flexible solutions for industries ranging from mining and energy to government and defence sectors.
