Construction trades students looked on Monday as yet another set of container home modules were swapped out at Scottsbluff High School.
While it took six to seven months for students to finish out each of the first two housing units, production now is anticipated to happen at a bit faster pace.
Jake Aulick says the plan as the projects get further along is to get training deeper into the construction trades, and even beyond. “We have electrical class that’s going on at the school shop, and now we’re going to have plumbing and HVAC in the spring. And so, we’ll have three different levels of class that are working with the container houses,” said Aulick. “The next piece for us that we’d like to envision is having DECA kids and marketing kids actually help promote and advertise these as well.”
Aulick says experience with the first set of homes has helped develop more standardized planning and procedures, which will provide more consistent training lessons for students.
He says as production continues, the plan for the housing units is to produce two a year and sell two, which will give the program stability and sustainability.
